Tree Cabling & Bracing

Tree Bracing & Cabling

Cable and brace rods provide supplemental structure support to trees to reduce the risk of failure of weak branches, multiple stems or weak branch attachment points. Cables consist of extra high tensile strength steel that are hand terminated by our expert arborists per ANSI A-300 Standards. Braces are threaded rod that our experts install through unions of branches that are weak and too small for cables. Support systems utilizing cabling and braces should always be evaluated by a certified arborist to ensure proper standards and materials are used during the installation of the support system.

Tree Trimming & Shrub Pruning

All plants, including shrubs and trees, require periodic pruning to protect the vigor of the plants and ensure you can enjoy them in your landscape for a long time to come. The frequency and methods of pruning depends on the plant species, age, location and purpose in the landscape.(Not sure if it is possible to have each of the services below listed with an “expansion button” like a +/-so they can be opened/closed to read the specific topic.)

Mature Tree Trimming

Pruning is crucial on mature trees to remove dead and dying branches to maintain the health and safety of plants. Research has now determined thinning, density reduction by the removal of living branches, significantly reduces wind resistance and resulting storm damage. Proper thinning should only be done on trees in which the crown is “too dense” and a Taylor’s arborist is trained to recognize this characteristic of trees.Thinning should concentrate on outer portions of the canopy, leaving interior branches whenever possible. Taylor’s arborists are experts in evaluating the condition of your trees to determine the type(s) of trimming required to balance the health and safety of a plant and the goals for your property.Taylor’s has contributed in engineering changes to our suppliers’ equipment for improved safety, efficiency and efficacy, based upon expert feedback and analysis we provide.

Young Tree Trimming

Structural pruning of young trees is often the most frequently overlooked. Trees developing in forests tend to grow straight and lose lower branch structure due to competition for light. When planted in a full sun landscape, several trees develop multiple stems/leaders that are
very prone to failure. As well, lower branches often grow very quickly, resulting in weak attachment points prone to eventual failure. Trimming trees when they are young and growing quickly is critical to provide a strong tree for future growth. As trees grow, there are branches removed to ensure proper spacing between other scaffold limbs. Taylor’s Way arborist trim to maintain the natural open grown form typical of a given species.

Specialty Pruning

Taylor’s arborists often develop formal pruning styles including pollarding, espalier and topiary. Numerous clients request fruit tree pruning to improve the production of apple, pear, citric, cherry and other fruit bearing plants. Our arborists often provide selective removal of large branches over homes, public areas or other areas of concern for safety.

Shrub Pruning

Clients are often surprised to learn Taylor’s specializes in shrub pruning. As compared to large, 75 foot trees we routinely prune, the Hydrangea in your landscape is easy in comparison. Landscapers and homeowners often confuse the practice shearing and pruning shrubs. Shearing only removes a portion of new growth, producing an artificial shape resembling a sphere, cube or oval rather than the natural habit of the plant. This allows the plant to continue to grow larger each year, eventually out-growing its space. When Taylor’s Experts properly prune shrubs, older growth as well as new shoots are trimmed. This allows for an informal and natural appearance that can be maintained on the plant variety. Shearing is considered appropriate for formal gardens and hedges. For individual plants however, pruning is better to sustain appearance and plant health over time.
