Over-thinning is one of the most common mistakes we correct. Removing too much live canopy stresses a tree and forces weak, fast regrowth. We take what needs to go and leave the rest.
Timing matters by species

What we prune
Pruning services
Mature tree pruning
Removes dead, dying and structurally compromised branches, protecting your property and extending the life of your trees. Research shows proper thinning significantly reduces wind resistance and storm damage.
Thinning is only appropriate when a crown is genuinely too dense, and that call should be made by a trained eye. Our arborists balance plant health, property safety and your goals, concentrating work on the outer canopy while preserving interior structure.
Young tree pruning
The most overlooked service in tree care. Young trees in full sun often develop competing leaders, poor branch spacing and weak attachment points that fail under their own weight years later.
Structural pruning while a tree is young sets it up for a strong, safe future. We prune to maintain the natural, open-grown form of each species, establishing proper scaffold limb spacing as the tree matures.
Specialty pruning
Formal styles including pollarding, espalier and topiary. We also prune fruit-bearing trees — apple, pear, cherry, citrus and others — to improve production, and provide selective removal of large branches overhanging homes and driveways.
Shrub pruning, not shearing
There is a difference, and most landscapes suffer because the two get confused. Shearing only clips new growth, forcing an artificial shape and allowing the plant to grow larger every year until it outgrows its space.
Proper pruning removes older growth alongside new shoots, maintaining the plant natural habit and long-term health. Shearing has its place in formal hedges. For individual plants, pruning wins every time.
Cabling and bracing
Cables and brace rods provide supplemental support to trees with weak branches, multiple stems or compromised attachment points. Our cables are high-tensile steel, hand-terminated by our arborists per ANSI A300 standards.
